Involvement
As a Chamber member, you are part of an
active solution driven organization. The Chamber serves as
a catalyst to resolve key business issues. Members are encouraged
to participate in committee work designed to have an impact
on the quality of life for everyone. By working with other
business leaders in a cooperative fashion, the Dallas Black
Chamber of Commerce produces positive results.
Membership Referrals and Directory
The chamber receives thousands of inquiries each year from
consumers for products and services. Individuals are
referred to Chamber members in an effort to provide increased
clientele and profits to members. In addition, the Chamber
publishes a membership directory that list all business members;
it is used throughout the metroplex by consumers and corporations
as a handy reference for products and services.
DBCC Update
Membership in the Chamber entitles you to receive a copy of
the "DBCC Update". The Chamber's newsletter is the
single most important vehicle for communicating with our members
and the entire business community. The "DBCC Update"
includes information on DBCC programs, activities, departmental
updates, feature stories and member profiles.
Networking
Members have an opportunity to attend open house following
each monthly board/ membership meeting, giving members first-hand
knowledge of facilities, services and/or products in a relaxing
atmosphere that promotes valuable business contacts. Quarterly
mixers feature presentations on special topics. The general
meetings are held the third Thursday of every month, beginning
at 6:30 P.M., at the Dallas Black Chamber office.

The Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce has formally recognized
volunteerism since 1985. Through the establishment of the DBCC/
Community Service Award, the Chamber honors individuals who
have made significant volunteer contributions to the civic enhancement
of Dallas' African American Community.
The DBCC/ Community Service Award is
currently sponsored by the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce
and Wells Fargo Bank. This prestigious award provides recognition
to its recipient and a contribution to the recipients favorite
charity/ charities. The award is presented during the DBCC's
Annual Banquet.
The Dallas community responds to the
DBCC/ Community Service Award by nominating a meritorious
group of outstanding volunteers who have distinguished themselves
both in the forefront and behind the scene. The recipients
are hailed as shining examples of community servants having
a positive and lasting impact on the growth and improvement
of the community. The following nomination criteria is used
(1) Nominee must be a Dallas County resident for at least
five years with at least three years of civic involvement
in the African American community' (2) The Nominee's service
to the community must be in a volunteer capacity and the service
rendered must be broad in scope; and, (3) the Nominee must
show dedication to the African American community and be an
outstanding, community-minded individual.
Over the past twelve years more than
60 non-profit organizations and agencies in Dallas' African
American community have received over $115,000 in contributions
through the recognition of outstanding volunteers by the Dallas
Black Chamber of Commerce.
The Dallas Black Chamber's Annual Banquet
presents a keynote speaker of national or local prominence.
This outstanding community event is generally attended by
1200-1600 DBCC corporate, small business, and individual supporters. |
